Somali pirates have captured eight boats and a crew of Indian sailors in waters off East Africa.

The dhows were anchored off the coast of Kismavo in Somalia, according to telegraphindia.com.

The vessels include the Al Quadri, Al Ijaz, Faiz Usmani, Sea Queen, Nar Narayan, Krishnajyot, Vishwakalyan and AKPCT.

The dhows, carrying charcoal and small items, regularly travel the route along East Africa.

An Indian naval frigate, the INS Betwa, is currently operating near the Gulf of Aden performing anti-piracy missions.
