Topaz Energy and Marine has taken the delivery of an emergency recovery and response vessel from Berjaya shipyard in Malaysia.
The company said the 61m Caspian Protector has been designed for standby duties and fire-fighting operations.
The ship, added to the company’s fleet of offshore support vessels, is equipped with three daughter craft and two fast rescue craft along with dynamic positioning capabilities.
It will be deployed in Azerbaijan under a ten-year, $225m BP contract awarded in 2008, Topaz said.
The Caspian Protector will join the platform supply vessel Caspian Server, which is already in service, while an anchor handling tug supply vessel, the Caspian Power, is scheduled for delivery in 2011.
