Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received two tank design approvals to be adopted on the floating production, storage and offloading units for liquefied natural gas.
The first approval in principle received from Lloyd’s Register of Shipping (LRS) adopts a MOSS type spherical storage tank with safety and reliability features, the company said.
The Japanese company is planning to adopt the tank design in medium-scale gas-field development projects of one to two million tons.
The second API from LRS, the American Bureau of Shipping and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Japan, is for an independent prismatic tank type B LNG-FPSO.
MHI said the tank design provides more deck space for the topside plant than the MOSS type and determines stress levels, fatigue and crack propagation characteristics.
