Wärtsilä has signed a contract with Brazilian industrial group QUIP to supply three main power modules for a P-63 floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
The power modules include two 18-cylinder 50DF tri-fuel engines in V-configuration, alternators and auxiliary equipment.
Running on marine diesel oil, treated gas or crude, the engines reduce operating costs as well as carbon emission levels by 93,000t a year.
The vessel is the first FPSO to use gas engines to produce over 100MWe of power and will operate on Brazil’s Papa Terra oilfield off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in the southern Campos Basin.
The Finnish gas engines manufacturer said the power modules will be installed in July 2011 and the FPSO will begin oil production in 2013.
BW Offshore will use a 323,000dwt ultra-large crude carrier, the BW Nisa, for the P-63 FPSO conversion while QUIP will provide topsides facilities to process around 140,000 barrels a day of crude oil.
