Cargo to Be Removed from Shen Neng 1

Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) in Australia will start unloading coal from the damaged Chinese bulk carrier Shen Neng 1, which is currently docked at the country’s Hervey Bay.

The Australian Department of Transport and Main Roads will off-load one-third of the 65,000t of coal, before the vessel leaves Australian waters for China.

The first half of the removed 19,000t of coal from the carrier will be transferred to Australian cargo ship Clipper Mistral, which was sent from Gladstone.

The bulk carrier was towed to the Fraser Coast last month after it ran aground east of Rockhampton in central Queensland spilling oil into Great Barrier Reef waters, according to abc.net.au.

MSQ said the ship-to-ship transfer will be monitored closely to reduce any further spillage or dust.
