Signal International has received a $30m contract from Waller Marine to manufacture two power barges.

The US company said each 300ft by 100ft barge will feature a GE 7FA gas turbine and a 171MW generator.

It said the barges will be manufactured to ABS classification by implementing modular construction and pre-outfitting techniques at the company’s Texas shipyard.

The facility has recently received $40m in investment for process improvements and continuous flow manufacturing methods, the company said.

Signal said Waller Marine will install and operate the units in Venezuela after their scheduled delivery on 17 August 2010.
