Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V will construct a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) port at Swinoujscie, Poland, under a contract awarded by the Maritime Office of Poland.

Under the €75m ($92.8m) contract, Boskalis will construct a turning basin and deepen the access channel to allow the port to accommodate large vessels.

The Netherlands-based company will also dredge more than eight million cubic metres of sand and build a 3.3km breakwater to protect the port.

Work is expected to begin in mid-2010 and is due to be completed by the end of 2012.

The contract is part of the €170m ($210.4m) total port contract awarded to a Boskalis-led consortium.

The consortium involves German-based Hochtief Construction AG, Danish firm Per Aarsleff A/S and Poland’s Doraco.
