Metrostar has agreed to sell a group of tankers to US shipping company General Maritime (GM) for $600-$700m.

Under the agreement, the company will sell very large crude carriers and two Suezmax tankers currently under construction, according to capital.gr.

The ships are believed to be the 318,000t Crudemed, the 306,500t Crudesky Crudesun, the 318,600t Crudestar and the 305,700t Crude Progress.

The Suezmax tankers, the Crude Ita and the Crude Zita, each with a capacity of 164,900t, are being built at Hyundai shipyards.

In 2007, Metrostar sold nine Capesize cargo ships to GM for $1.1bn.
