US aluminium giant Alcoa and state-owned Russian shipbuilder United Shipping Corporation have agreed a deal to boost the use of aluminium in the Russian shipbuilding industry.

United Shipping, which currently accounts for more than 65% of products manufactured in the Russian shipping sector, has identified potential areas of cooperation with the New York-based company.

The use of aluminium in shipbuilding allows ships to travel faster and longer and to carry bigger payloads.
