A consortium headed by UK-based Eredene Capital has secured a £207m ($312m) contract to build and operate a container terminal at Ennore Port in Tamil Nadu, India.
The project will be constructed by a consortium headed by Spanish port operator Grup Maritim, Spanish construction group Obrascon Huarte Lain and Indian engineering group Lanco Infratech.
The terminal will have a 1,000m-long quay and an annual capacity of 1.5 million TEU.
It will also be able to handle three container vessels of up to 8,000TEU simultaneously.
The proposed terminal will take 33 months to complete and is expected to be operational by 2013.
