Crude Carriers has received a 297,863dwt very large crude carrier (VLCC) from Universal Shipbuilding Corporation for $96.5m at the Ariake Shipyard in Japan.

The company said the Achilleas has been contracted for an index-related voyage charter with Shell Trading & Shipping linked to the Baltic Dirty Tanker Route 3 (TD3).

The charter deal allows Crude Carriers to earn the average of the TD3 spot market index during the voyage.

The delivery of the Achilleas enables Crude Carriers to complete the acquisition of its initial three-vessel IPO fleet, the company said.

Crude Carriers said it will acquire the newly built VLCC Atlantas for $108m by 1 June 2011.
