Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has secured a $1.03bn order from Evergreen Marine Corporation in Taiwan to build ten container vessels.
The 8,000teu L-class vessels will be constructed under its Greenship design, the company said.
The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2012 and will join the Evergreen Line global containership fleet.
Six of the vessels will be built for Evergreen Marine Corporation and four for Evergreen International, SHI said.
With an overall length of 334.8m and beam of 45.8m, the ships will have a cruise speed of 24.5kts.
SHI has also secured a $670m contract for an undisclosed Asian shipping firm to build nine oil tankers.
