Galfar Engineering and Contracting has secured a $100m contract to build a harbour at Al Halaniyat Island, Oman.
The agreement involves the construction of 800m of breakwater, 500m of quay walls and wharves, a pair of floating steel pontoons and a ramp for landing craft.
The construction company will also undertake reclamation work involving around one million cubic metres of rock and build a road network.
Galfar will complete the project in 30 months after a three-month mobilisation period. The harbour is expected to be operational by 2013.
The facility will also host a coastal ferry terminal, designed to link the islands to Oman’s high-speed coastal passenger ferry service.
