Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has signed an agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering to build a deep-water construction ship.
The Korean shipyard will build a monohull vessel equipped to execute complex infrastructure and pipeline projects.
The 210m ship could cost up to $700m.
The vessel will be designed with sufficient lifting capacity to install fixed platforms in relatively shallow water, HMC said.
The ship will be fitted with a pipelay tower with a tension capacity of 2,000t and a revolving lift capacity of 4,000t which can lower equipment to a depth of 3,500m.
The vessel will be commissioned by 2013.
