Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry has secured a contract from a Chinese shipowner to build eight 82,000dwt bulkers, including four optional contracts.

The vessels, which will be built at Hantong’s facility at Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry, China, are expected to cost between $33m and $34m each.

The shipyard will deliver the ships by May 2012, according to seatradeasia-online.com.

Jiangsu Hantong is aiming to deliver 18 vessels this year, in comparison to the 11 it delivered in 2009.

Last month, the shipyard received $200m in orders from New York-based Delphin Shipping to build seven Supramax vessels for delivery in 2011 and 2013.
