Forth Ports has reported a 29% increase in 2010 first-half profits due to growth in container volumes.

The UK-based company said the figure represents a pre-tax profit of £16m for the six-month period ended 30 June.

Forth Ports is planning to acquire other port businesses, according to Reuters.

The company, which has other commercial ports in Britain, has submitted planning applications for onshore wind installations and biomass facilities at its Scottish ports.
