Argentina is planning a $112m project to dredge and buoy a 650km stretch of the Parana River up to its confluence with the Paraguay River.
The project also includes the excavation of a navigable channel to a depth of 12ft on the Parana River and 10ft on the Paraguay River up to Asuncion.
Dredging of channels between Santa Fe and the port of San Martin downriver to a depth of 28ft was proposed and would be completed by the end of 2011.
The channels will be deepened to 32ft later, according to sandandgravel.com.
The dredging will allow the upper reaches of the Parana River to be navigable around the clock and provide space for larger vessels.
