The Associated British Ports (ABP) has awarded a £100m contract to Graham Lagan Construction Group Joint Venture (JV) for construction at the Green Port Hull site on Alexandra Dock, UK.
The joint venture comprises Northern Ireland-based construction groups Graham and Lagan Construction Group. The contract will run for a period of two years.
GRAHAM Lagan Construction Group JV project director Paul Scott said: "Green Port Hull will be a world-class manufacturing facility and will establish the Humber at the centre of the offshore wind sector in the UK."
For the Green Port Hull project, the joint venture company will prepare the site for Siemens, which can then begin construction of its own facilities.
Work will include infilling one third of Alexandra Dock with 780,000m³ of material and reclaiming 7.5ha of the river to build a new 650m quay wall to house three wind installation vessels.
The site is expected to be operational by summer 2017.
Other developments which will be carried out as part of the project include dredging a new berth pocket, completion of earthworks and surfacing, building internal access roads and service networks and construction of a new Roll-on / Roll-off ramp. Demolition of some existing buildings will also be part of the project.
Siemens developments will cover the Green Port Hull facility and a new rotor blade manufacturing base in nearby Paull, in the East Riding.
In these locations, Siemens will invest £160m while ABP plans to invest £150m in the Green Port Hull development.
Consulting engineers CH2M HIL will supervise the construction works.
