Bergen Group BMV has won a NOK1bn ($164.8m) contract to build a large and advanced offshore construction vessel (OCV) for North Sea Shipping, including facilities for laying flex pipe and cables.
The OCV will have a length of 142m, beam of 27m, cabin capacity of 120 people and will be equipped to undertake demanding offshore projects, including complex subsea operations.

Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the second quarter of 2014 and after delivery it is expected to be chartered to an unnamed company engaged in subsea operation.
Bergen Group BMV CEO Terje Sjumarken said this will be the ninth offshore vessel the company has built and delivered since 2007.
"The contract with North Sea Shipping provides us with an exciting order backlog horizon until the summer of 2014," Sjumarken said.
The contract also includes an option for a similar vessel, which would be delivered in late 2014 if the option is exercised by North Sea.

By GlobalDataDesigned by Skipsteknisk in Ålesund, Norway, the vessel will be based on the ST-261 design, which was developed in partnership with the ship owner, end-user and Bergen Group.
The vessel will be equipped with an advanced DP3 positioning system, an offshore crane with a lifting capacity of 400t and two advanced remotely operated vehicle (ROV) systems that can conduct operations at a maximum water depth of 3,000m.
It will also have a working deck of about 2,000m², which can withstand a load of 15t/sqm and a large carousel below deck that will have a storage capacity of up to 2,000t of cable or flex pipe.
The company said that the hull will be built abroad, while outfitting and commissioning will be done by the autumn of 2013.
