Carnival Cruise Lines has launched New Orleans’ largest cruise ship, Carnival Dream, which will soon embark upon its inaugural six-day cruise from New Orleans.

The 1,004ft long and 130,000t vessel can accommodate 3,646 passengers, and offers a range of on-board innovations such as WaterWorks, featuring a 303ft long twister water slide and a 23,750ft² Cloud 9 spa facility.

The liner has a half-mile long outdoor promenade with whirlpools that extend over the ship’s sides. The new cruise ship is equipped with more than two dozen bars, restaurants and lounges, including the poolside RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila Bar.

"The arrival of Carnival Dream significantly expands our capacity in New Orleans, which is a direct result of the combined efforts of port and local officials and our valued travel agent partners."

Additional features of Carnival Dream include the Ocean Plaza indoor/outdoor cafe and live entertainment venue and the Seaside Theatre; a 270ft² LED screen displaying concerts, sporting events and nightly dive-in movies.

The ship offers dozens of guest suites and a wide selection of balcony staterooms, including unique cove balconies located closer to the water.

In addition to these, there are ocean view staterooms with a full bath and separate wash room, and five-berth staterooms for families.

The inaugural six-day cruise will see the vessel visit Costa Maya, Mahogany Bay and Cozumel locations.

Carnival Dream will launch an all year-round seven-day service on 20 April offering three different itineraries; western Caribbean cruises visiting Montego Bay, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman; Mahogany Bay, Belize and Cozumel; or a Bahamas route calling at Key West, Freeport and Nassau.

Carnival Cruise Lines president and CEO Gerry Cahill said that New Orleans is one of the company’s most popular homeports and Carnival Dream provides vacationers with another cruise option.

"Further, the arrival of Carnival Dream significantly expands our capacity in New Orleans, which is a direct result of the combined efforts of port and local officials and our valued travel agent partners who have been instrumental in supporting our New Orleans cruise programme," Cahill said.
