Maritime equipment provider Cathelco has secured a series of orders from New Times Shipbuilding in China to deliver hull corrosion protection and seawater pipework anti-fouling systems.

The Chinese shipyard received a contract from Norway’s Jo Tankers to build eight 33,000dwt stainless steel chemical tankers.

These newbuilds will be equipped with a Cathelco Quantum impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system in order to protect the hulls against corrosion.

Cathelco sales manager Adam Rogers said: "One of the advantages of the Quantum system is that the control panel stores comprehensive information about the performance of the system.

"The vessels will be equipped with Cathelco seawater pipework anti-fouling systems to protect engine cooling lines and auxiliary equipment."

"This can be downloaded to a USB stick and emailed to Cathelco for analysis, avoiding the need for completing and returning paper log sheets."

The ICCP system comprises an arrangement of hull-mounted anodes and reference electrodes connected to a thyristor control panel.

These anodes, which are lighter and more compact than conventional ones, offer a relatively large current output from a small surface area. The C-Max anodes also make installation easier.

In addition, the vessels will be equipped with Cathelco seawater pipework anti-fouling systems to protect engine cooling lines and auxiliary equipment against blockages caused by barnacles and mussels.

Meanwhile, Cathelco has received orders from Jiangzu New Shipyard in Yangzijiang to provid its ICCP system for eight 82,000dwt bulk carriers from Klaveness Shipping.

The vessels will be installed with both forward and aft Cathelco ICCP systems.
