Maritime equipment manufacturer Cathelco has been contracted to provide equipment for a number of specialised vessels under construction at Remontowa Shipbuilding in Gdansk, Poland.
Cathelco will provide an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system for Ice-class containerships being built for Greenland’s Royal Arctic Line (RAL).

Remontowa received the order for five Ice-class containerships from RAL and the vessels are expected to be delivered this year.
The ICCP system will provide effective and reliable protection in Arctic waters where lower levels of salinity have significant implications, Cathelco stated.
Cathelco project development manager Stephen Ellis said: "Because the seawater has a higher resistivity, the current requires a higher driving force and therefore we are supplying a 50V control panel, instead of the normal 24V, which would be used in more temperate waters."
In addition, Cathelco will deliver the ICCP system and a seawater pipework anti-fouling system for an anchor-handling tug / supply vessel (AHTS), which the Candian owner will use at in the ExxonMobil fields off Newfoundland and Labrador.

Similar equipments will be also installed in a dynamically positioned cable lay vessel (CLV), which is being constructed for a Norwegian owner.
Cathelco said the ICCP system will guard the hull against corrosion and the seawater pipework anti-fouling system will protect seawater lines against blockages caused by barnacles and mussels.
