Chile-based port Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso (EPV) has signed a contract worth €7.5m with Indra, a Spanish consulting and technology firm, to overhaul and expand its global technological platform.
Currently serving as a technological partner of EPV, Indra had already performed the technological modernisation for the Port of Valparaíso’s expansion as well as the development of a comprehensive solution in 2007.

Indra also developed and launched the EPV’s administrative systems under a contract signed in 2010.
The latest project includes developing new features, expanding the scope, providing maintenance for another five years that can be extended to eight years, logistics communication and information, foreign trade and control system for the Port of Valparaíso’s community.
Under the new contract, Indra will also integrate new agents in the communication and information transfer processes, and will create a marketplace for hiring logistic services and intelligent transport systems (ITS) to track operations.
The enhanced technological platform will enable the Port of Valparaíso to improve its logistics processes, the environmental quality of the port, capacity and control, and the coordination of all the agents involved.

By GlobalDataUpgrades to the technological platform will expand it to include traffic control and safety systems between the logistics support extension area (ZEAL) and the port’s terminals, and the internal traffic and access management systems.
The systems will allow the port to identify each vehicle, driver and load, and link them to the associated import/export process.
The platform also contains the multi-service communications network of the global management system and the interfaces with the agents involved, the multi-channel information systems that are necessary for coordinating the activities of the various agents, and other technical resources that are required for operations, such as safety systems, a radio and phone network, and access to external telecommunications services.
Additionally, the National Audit Office has also signed a €2.7m contract with Indra for the implementation of an x-ray scanner in the ZEAL of the Port of Valparaíso for non-intrusive cargo and container inspections.
