CHQ Security Services, a UK-based physical and electronic security solutions provider, has provided its security and safety solutions for DP World‘s London Gateway terminal.
Built on the north bank of the river Thames, the London Gateway is the UK’s first major deep-sea container port.

Serving as DP World’s security and risk assessment consultant, CHQ assisted DP World in meeting the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), the maritime sector’s response to 9/11, for the new port’s security.
The security solutions offered for the terminal building include closed-circuit television (CCTV), perimeter intrusion detection systems (PIDS), access control system and wide-area surveillance.
CHQ further plans to integrate its access control system with DP World’s time and attendance software.
Other safety solutions deployed include badge readers, which can provide marshals with real-time information about who had left the building and who remained inside during emergency situations.

GP World global security director Mark Rogers said at tender stage, CHQ Security Services showed a clear grasp of the project and an understanding of what DP World wanted to achieve.
"Safety, security and a carbon-efficient agenda are uppermost for us but any port will also strive for optimum productivity, something that we owe our clients. CHQ have helped us to achieve balance," Rogers added.
CHQ director Kevin Brownell said DP World wanted an effective security strategy that would be unobtrusive and in sync with both the built and natural environment.
"Proceeding from an initial requirement of CCTV design, our remit grew and CHQ began consulting with departments including facilities, engineering and health & safety in addition to security," Brownell added.
London Gateway will have six berths and is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2013.
