UK-based provider of specialised heavy lifting equipment Cooper Specialised Handling has been awarded a contract to provide a large crane to Belfast Harbour.
The Mantsinen 160M hydraulic crane is the largest crane of its kind to be installed in the UK and Ireland, and is scheduled to be delivered at the end of this year.
The wheeled hydraulic crane is designed to attend the vessels calling into the Belfast harbor and ranges between 4,000 dead weight tonnage (dwt) and 15,000dwt, handling a variety of products, but mainly coal, scrap, grain and refuse-derived fuel.
The crane is fitted with the Mantsinen MC620 quick change coupling device to facilitate a brisk interchanging of attachments. It also features a 17.5m curved boom and 15m stick, offering 31m horizontal outreach and enabling a capacity of more than 10t at 27m extension.
The crane can further be mounted 9m horizontally from the slew-ring centre by the Mantsinen patented cab riser to offer optimum visibility into the vessel hold.
Cooper Specialised Handling director David Cooper said: "We are delighted to have secured this important new business, which sees a high-profile end-user opting for the capability to load more while using less energy.
"The synergies between Cooper and Mantsinen, and our commitment to working in partnership to deliver cost-effective solutions to challenging handling issues, really came to the fore with this project."
