Damen Shipyard has won a contract from Scotland-based Maritime Craft Services (MCS) to build three more Damen Twin Axe Fast Crew Suppliers.

All three vessels are scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2013.

The Scottish firm took delivery of the first Twin Axe FCS 2610, called Sirocco, in April 2012, while the second vessel Pampero, a heavy lift carrier, is expected to be delivered in Rotterdam by the end of 2012.

The two MCS vessels are based on the new Damen standard FCS 2610 design and are equipped with a larger wheelhouse and superstructure that offers more accommodation space compared to the previous models.

"All three vessels are scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2013."

Based on the Damen’s Sea Axe concept, the Twin Axe design vessels will be able to operate at a maximum speed of 26 knots.

According to the company, the new vessels will be capable of cruising through wave heights of 2.5m without any impact on performance; the design also reduces bow slamming under certain conditions.

Damen collaborated with the Delft University of Technology and other scientific research institutes to develop the Damen Twin Axe Fast Crew Supplier 2610 type catamaran, which was introduced in June 2011.

MCS currently operates a fleet of 16 tugs and workboats worldwide and already has several Damen designed ships, which include Multi Cats, Shoalbusters and Dredge Helpers.
