Maritime Communication Partner (MCP) has signed an agreement with subsea services company DeepOcean to offer online and mobile communications for a new build MT6022 offshore vessel.

Built by Kleven, the new vessel will be chartered from REM Maritime AS and will offer inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) services for all Norwegian fields operated by multinational oil and gas company Statoil on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

This deal between DeepOcean and Statoil will last for five years and worth Nkr1.5bn ($253m).

The five-year contract between DeepOcean and Statoil also includes a further three-year option, which increases the value to Nkr2.5bn ($421m).

"Our solution will allow those onboard the vessel to communicate with their devices as they would at home, while Statoil and DeepOcean will enjoy reliable, fast and secure communication channels."

Starting from Q1 2014, MCP will manage the connections between DeepOcean and Statoil under its three year deal with DeepOcean.

It will offer the new vessel with high bandwidth online services and mobile network coverage.

These services can facilitate the transfer of large quantities of data between the vessel and DeepOcean and Statoil’s onshore operations.

The services also include internet/Wi-Fi and mobile connections for crewmembers.

MCP offshore senior vice president Tom Løwehr said: "Our solution, anchored by our market proven CellAtSea network, will allow those onboard the vessel to communicate with their devices as they would at home, while Statoil and DeepOcean will enjoy reliable, fast and secure communication channels."

MCP’s solution features multiple data link bundling, which offers optimum bandwidth by combining multiple data links together with the VSAT.

This deal is the latest for MCP in the offshore sector, after it secured a contract with Gulf Offshore in September to provide mobile and internet services to three vessels operating on the NCS.
