Finnish ship design firm Deltamarin has won a contract from China’s Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard to design a B.Delta25 design 28,000 dwt bulk carrier.
Under the deal, Deltamarin will provide the basic design, technical procurement handling and also send a site team to the shipyard to ensure continuity of design until completion.
According to the company, the vessels will have single hull and shallow draft with good manoeuvring capabilities to enable them to operate in restricted water depths, consuming less fuel.
Design work for the vessels will be carried out at Deltamarin’s facilities in Europe and China, along with its partner network.
Each of the vessels will have a length of 175m, beam of 27m and cargo holding capacity of 37,000m³.
The vessels will have a service speed of 14 knots and daily fuel consumption is expected to be 16.6t, including a 15 % seamargin, while the energy efficiency design index (EEDI) will be 23% less than required.
Energy efficiency measures to be used on the vessel include a hull form and novel propeller, rudder and main engine solutions.
The B.Delta25 design will expand the B.Delta series portfolio, which currently consists of B.Delta37, B.Delta64 and B.Delta82.
The company already has a number of contracts to design larger handysize B.Delta37 bulk carriers, which are currently being built at Chinese shipyards including CSIC / Tianjin Xingang, CSSC / Chengxi and Yangfan Group.
