Finnish ship design firm Deltamarin has won a contract from Yangfan Group of China to design the B.Delta37 bulk carriers for the Italian ship owner d’Amico Societa di Navigazione.
The Italian ship owner has placed six confirmed orders, along with six options, with the Chinese builder for a series of six vessels.
Under the deal, Deltamarin will provide the basic design, technical procurement handling and also send a site team to the shipyard to ensure continuity of design until production.
According to the company, the vessel design will be based on an amended version of the standard B.Delta37, configured with open hatches.
Design work for the vessels will be carried out at Deltamarin’s offices in Europe and China, along with its partner network.
Each of the vessels will be of 38,500dwt with a length of 180m, beam of 30m and cargo holding capacity of 49,500m³.
The vessels will have a service speed of 14 knots and daily fuel consumption is expected to be 17.9t including a 15 % seamargin. The specification calls for an EEDI of 21.6% less than the basic requirements soon to come into force.
Energy efficiency measures to be employed on the vessel include a low-resistance hull form and novel propeller, rudder and main engine solutions.
Deltamarin has won a total of 35 orders from nine different owners for the derivative of its B.Delta37 bulk carriers, which are currently being built at Tianjin Xingang and Chengxi shipyards in China.
