Norway’s Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and SpecTec have launched an integrated inspection and maintenance system for ship structures.
SpecTec’s AMOS technical management system has been combined with DNV’s hull integrity management (HIM) system to further simplify inspection planning, reporting and monitoring.
The new combined application will use the DNV vessel-specific hull inspection forms and procedures that come as part of the HIM system.
The system’s 3D inspection and reporting features provide early detection of defects so they can be resolved in the early stages, before they lead to costly repairs, according to DNV.
Tasks like maintenance, efficient spare parts logistics and the production of quality and safety documentation have been supported by the inclusion of HIM in the AMOS maintenance system.
A vessel structure model has been created in the AMOS component order and it is combined with HIM’s vessel-specific hull inspection information.
DNV service development manager of HIM Richard Tao said that HIM gives ship owners an easy-to-use platform to plan, manage and input data gathered during routine on-board hull inspections.
"Hull inspection planning and monitoring is critical to vessel safety and our partnership with SpecTec brings connectivity and functionality that meets the growing needs in the industry," Tao said.
AMOS data communication automatically synchronises hull inspection data to make it available for crew, managers, charterers, inspectors and specialists.
SpecTec CEO Giampiero Soncini said: "Our cooperation with DNV adds the ability to provide structure-related maintenance and monitoring so that the ship management can track structural and coating condition, including repairs, with statistics that can be benchmarked from vessel to fleet."
