Erma First has been selected by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) to install next-generation ballast water treatment systems on nine crude oil tankers.

Previously, Tsakos had placed an order with DSME to build nine Aframax crude tankers that will be chartered to Statoil.

"These alternative options with better standard enable operating flexibility, minimum footprint and compact design."

Erma’s ballast water treatment system comes with full flow electrolysis with two options. The first option is the 40microns self-cleaning automatic screen filtersafe filter, while the second is an extremely small volume self-cleaning automatic screen filtrex filter.

These alternative options with better standard enable operating flexibility, minimum footprint and compact design.

Erma First managing director Konstantinos Stampedakis said: "The contract with DSME for Erma First BWTSystems in favour of Tsakos is a big step for Erma First SA, since this is the first ex-proof application on such type of vessels."

The delivery of 27 BWT systems from Erma First is scheduled between 2015 and 2016. Receipt of the nine vessels is expected to start in 2016 and the estimated gross revenues from this project are between $250m and approximately $1bn.
