Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has secured an order to build a new ultra-luxury cruise ship for Silversea Cruises.

The new 40,700gt vessel, to be named Silver Muse, will be capable of accommodating 596 guests.

Silversea CEO Enzo Visone said: "With enhanced design specifications and enriched content, the Silver Muse will continue to build on the sophistication, innovative style and ground-breaking concepts for which Silversea ships are renowned.

"This ship contributes to our ambitious growth plans that will ensure our continued leadership in ultra-luxury cruising."

With this new-build, Silversea’s fleet will be expanded to nine ships. The vessel is expected to be delivered in April 2017.

"Silver Muse will continue to build on the sophistication, innovative style and ground-breaking concepts for which Silversea ships are renowned."

Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono said: "Silversea has shown remarkable dynamism and ability to achieve important results in this market.

"This project offers us the opportunity to develop creative solutions and set new standards for shipbuilding in the ultra-luxury segment, a segment in which Fincantieri has won every new order on the market in the past year."

In 2009, Fincantieri delivered the sixth ship in the Silversea Cruises fleet, Silver Spirit.

Silver Spirit features 270 ocean-view cabins with a maximum capacity of 540 passengers.

In June, Fincantieri signed a binding letter of intent (LoI) with Virgin Cruises to build three cruise ships.

The new 110,000gt vessels will have 1,430 guest cabins with a capacity to accommodate more than 2,800 passengers and 1,150 crew members.
