Finland-based electric drive train specialist Visedo has secured an order to deliver an electric-system for an electric ferryboat being built by Danish shipbuilder Søby Shipyard.
Claimed to be the world’s largest fully electric ferryboat, the new vessel is expected to be introduced in June 2017.

Visedo will provide a silent electric propulsion system capable of ensuring minimal emitted noise levels, when compared with diesel engine operation.
With this solution, the ferry will be able to reduce wake waves by 60% to 70% and also be permitted to travel in EU Natura areas.
Visedo CEO Dr Kimmo Rauma said: "This new contract, along with several recently won marine projects like the Damen Eco-Liner project in the Netherlands, gives further validation of Visedo’s strong execution of its business plan.

By GlobalDataAfter delivery, the new ferry will be deployed for transportation of vehicles and passengers between the island Ærø and mainland Denmark.
The new electric vessel is expected to reduce the carbon emissions by 2,000t and nitrogen by 41,500kg a year.
Part of the €21m EU Horizon 2020 initiative, this shipbuilding programme comes under the Danish Natura project, which aims to guarantee green transportation in the area.
Meanwhile, Visedo’s strategic partner, Swiss battery manufacturer Leclanché, has also received an order for the delivery of a 4.2MWh battery system, along with the battery management system developed by Visedo.
