US-based navigational information provider Jeppesen has won a three-year contract from BP Shipping to provide optimisation solutions for BP’s fleet of oil and liquid natural gas (LNG) tankers.

Under the deal, Jeppesen will equip its Vessel and Voyage Optimization Solution (VVOS) on 52 BP vessels that transport crude oil and LNG shipments worldwide.

The deal will also see BP Shipping operations integrated with Jeppesen’s FleetManager shoreside component, which will be used to track BP’s owned and chartered vessels.

The BP vessels equipped with VVOS will enjoy optimised ship routes and engine settings to increase efficiency, reduce risks like cargo loss and weather damage, and cut fuel costs, according to Jeppesen.

FleetManager will allow BP’s shoreside managers to monitor vessel performance at sea and receive detailed reports on any vessel’s current operating environment.

Jeppesen will also provide its vessel routing services to help ship masters analyse vessel data and respond with route planning and advisory services to optimise operational efficiency.

The company will supply BP with C-MAP electronic charts that will enable vessels to perform depth and obstruction checks before accepting a route.
