Kelvin Hughes has secured a contract from French company AVON Communications to supply five of its SBS-700 radar systems for integration with the Marseille Fos Port’s Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS).
The port is comprised of two harbours; the 1,000ha eastern harbour is located in the city of Marseille itself, while the 12,000ha western harbour is located in Fos.

Spread over an area larger than the city of Paris, Marseille Fos is France’s leading port and handles everything from hydrocarbons and bulk liquids such as oil, gas and chemical products to bulk solids such as minerals and cereals, and general cargo, and is a major cruise ship terminal.
The SBS-700 radar system will be designed to meet the requirements of a Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) system, as required by the IALA recommendation V-128, and each X-band system supplied will have a combination of the SBS 700-1 single transceiver and the SBS 700-2 dual redundant transceiver.
The radar system will incorporate an enhanced magnetron transmitter, feature a high dynamic range, a low-noise front end, and a field-effect transistor (FET) modulator.
