Keppel Offshore & Marine (O&M) subsidiary Keppel FELS has received a contract from Crystal Heights to construct an $85m high-specification liftboat.

Designed by Bennett Offshore in collaboration with Keppel FELS, delivery of the liftboat is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Keppel FELS managing director Wong Kok Seng said: "This latest contract from Crystal Heights is the second liftboat based on Keppel’s innovative proprietary solution that Keppel has been contracted to build within a year."

"The self-elevating and self-propelled liftboat will be able to operate at water depths of up to 60m."

The new liftboat will be capable of operating in China, the Middle East and the Gulf of Mexico. The self-elevating and self-propelled liftboat will be able to operate at water depths of up to 60m.

Equipped with a 280t deck crane, it will be able to carry out maintenance work at most shallow water oil and gas fields, and wind farms, as well as various workover drilling operations and well intervention applications.

Moreover, the vessel will have the capacity to accommodate 200 persons and feature large, versatile open deck space for cargo storage.

Crystal Heights director Kenny Cai said: "Building our first liftboat with a reputable shipyard will enable us to establish an early foothold in the market, especially in the Asian region which currently has the least number of liftboats available per platform."

It is also equipped with Keppel’s jacking system, designed by subsidiary Offshore Technology Development.

Meanwhile, Keppel’s joint venture shipyard in Qatar, Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM), is currently building a similar vessel for a Qatari oilfield service company.
