Vessel models available within the system will be covered under the Class A approval, which will join the recent DNV certification for the company’s engine room and navigation simulators.
Apart from the approval for its VLCC Load Calculator system, the company has also secured DNV certification for six vessel models available in its Neptune Cargo Handling Simulator, which include LPG carrier, LNG-M (Membrane), LNG-S (Spherical), chemical carrier, product carrier and VLCC.
Kongsberg Maritime product and technology manager Terje Heierstad said that it is important to ensure all of the company’s simulators have approvals to the better standards.
"It supports us in meeting customer and industry demand for the highest quality training tools whilst demonstrating that our systems are designed to operate under the most up to date legislation," Heierstad said.
The new cargo handling simulator meets the STCW section A-II/1, A-II/2, A-II/3, A-III/1, A-III/2 and A-V/1 requirements related to planning and ensuring safe loading, safety during transit, unloading of cargoes and maintain the ship’s seaworthiness in terms of trim, stability and stress.
Various simulator configurations are ready for use where the cargo control room may be represented by any blend of mutual mimic panels, operational panels, consoles and/or desk-top stations.
Kongsberg Maritime product advisor of cargo handling simulators Steffen Jensen said that because Neptune is based on the same core software, it is extremely flexible.
"It enables our customers to specify the exact configuration they need and can be easily upgraded or expanded according to changing needs," Jensen said.
