China’s Cosco Shipyard Group has awarded a contract to Cargotec subsidiary MacGregor to deliver their Pusnes technology in bow loading and offloading systems, to be incorporated into two cargo transfer vessels (CTV).

MacGregor plans to start delivery of the technology at the end of this year for the new vessels, which will be constructed at Cosco Nantong Shipyard and Cosco Guangdong Shipyard.

The Macgregor Pusnes technology enables direct loading of crude oil from a floating production storage offloading (FPSO) facility or a floating storage offloading (FSO) unit to a conventional tanker, up to very large crude carrier (VLCC) size.

"Based on this legacy, MacGregor was invited by Cefront Technology, who developed the concept, to participate in the design and development of the loading systems."

MacGregor Advanced Offshore Solution vice-president Høye Høyesen said: "MacGregor, and its Pusnes brand, has a long history of developing pioneering offshore loading systems within the industry.

"Based on this legacy, MacGregor was invited by Cefront Technology, who developed the concept, to participate in the design and development of the loading systems."

Under the contract, MacGregor will design, develop, deliver and commission the Pusnes loading systems into the new vessels.

The system is composed of a bow loading system and an offloading system.

The bow loading system has two integrated systems, the hose handling system, a 20 degree bow loading coupler located forward at the centre line of the ship that receives the hose end from the FPSO; and a hawser handling system, which is a roller fairlead and a chain stopper located on the platform deck facilitating the process during tandem loading.

The Pusnes offloading system allows an offshore unit to offload oil to a shuttle tanker and it consists of two integrated systems.

The hose handling system handles the hose during the offloading procedure and the hawser handling system serves as a mooring system to anchor the tandem-moored vessel at a distance during the offloading operation.

Macgregor had earlier delivered four sets of Pusnes bow loading systems to Cosco Nantong Shipyard and two sets to Cosco Zhoushan Shipyard along with a range of deck machinery and steering gear to different Cosco shipyards.
