MAN Diesel & Turbo has won a contract to deliver 8L32/44CR B.2 engines as part of a complete propulsion package to power the Ice Class 1A seismic vessel recently ordered by Norway’s GC Rieber Shipping at Kleven Werft.

The contract also includes an option to supply the propulsion package for an additional vessel.

Under the deal, the vessel will be powered by four engines along with a pair of two-speed Flender twin-in/single-out reduction gears and MAN Alpha twin screw CP propellers in Alpha High Thrust (AHT) nozzles.

MAN Diesel & Turbo will deliver the propulsion system by May 2014 for the new vessel being built to a new ST 324 XT design by Skipsteknisk, with expected delivery in March 2015.

The hull of the vessel will be built in Poland, while outfitting will be done at Kleven’s Myklebust shipyard in Norway.

MAN will carry out the construction and testing of the four-stroke 8L32/44CR B.2 common-rail engines at its headquarters in Augsburg, Germany.

Reduction gears from Siemens-Flender have been selected to ensure the propellers have a wider silent-operation window at a constant engine speed of 750rpm.
