Global cruise operator Norwegian Cruise has acquired Princess Cruises’ mid-size cruise ship Ocean Princess to expand its fleet of newly acquired Oceania Cruises.
Norwegian Cruise recently completed the $3.02bn acquisition of Prestige Cruises International, the parent company of Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
Ocean Princess will be renamed Sirena under the new brand and join its sister ships Insignia, Regatta and Nautica.
Norwegian Cruise president and CEO Kevin Sheehan said: "The acquisition of Sirena provides measured capacity growth based on the proven platform of Oceania Cruises’ highly regarded mid-size ships.
"Our belief in the Oceania Cruises brand and our commitment to its growing base of loyal guests were the rationale behind our decision to bring Sirena into the fleet."
Once delivered in March 2016, Sirena will undergo a $40m refurbishment in Marseille, France, for a period of 35 days where the ship will be fitted out with Oceania Cruises’ special features.
