Optimarin, a Norway-based provider of Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) systems, has signed an agreement with UK-based V.Ships to deploy the Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) in its ships.
Under the deal, V.Ships’ contracting business MARCAS will promote the company’s OBS unit in around 650 ships managed by the business.

The V.ships’ fleet includes cargo-carrying vessels such as bulk and chemical tankers, and specialised ships including seismic and offshore vessels.
The OBS unit, which is based on filtration and UV irradiation technology, will be actively promoted as the BWT solution for V.Ships’ managed ships weighing under 52,000dwt.
V.Ships, through its technical product division SeaTec, evaluated the BWT technology before selecting OBS for its fleet.
Optimarin CEO Tore Andersen said many large ship owners have sizable and sophisticated technical departments and may feel they can make their own evaluations of the BWT market.
