UK-based service provider for mobile offshore drilling fleet and subsea industry, Rigmar has secured a multi-million pound shipyard services contract from oil giant Transocean to complete the service works on the Galaxy II rig.

The project is expected to last for around 68 days and will be carried out at Rigmar’s fabrication facility in Dundee.

Located 481nm from Norway, 67 miles from Aberdeen and 150 miles from Invergordon, the Port of Dundee was recently expanded with the acquisition of five fabrication sheds and new office block for around £1m.

The expansion has increased its size from 1,061m² to 13,268m², making it the UK’s premier subsea and rig repair hub.

To repair the rig, Rigmar will use its experience in the engineering and design, access, blasting and painting, construction, fabrication, resource management and inspection divisions.

Rigmar managing director Robert Dalziel said this contract is the largest of its size secured by its rig repair division.

"The Port of Dundee is considered to be a strategic location for Rigmar, largely due to the local infrastructure and skill pool."

"Over the past 24 months, Rigmar has invested significantly in our offering to ensure we are well placed to meet the needs of this rapidly growing market and further demonstrate our commitment to develop our business in Tayside," Dalziel said.

"The Port of Dundee is considered to be a strategic location for Rigmar, largely due to the local infrastructure and skill pool, and we will continue to work closely with the Port of Dundee to ensure it has what it needs to meet the requirements of the Rig Repair and Subsea market."

The company has also secured other contracts with organisations such as Rowan, Subsea 7, Stena Drilling and Ensco.

Dalziel said in order to ensure they deliver on their commitments under these contracts, it is important that they have the right team in place.

"To ensure the reality reflects the aspiration, Rigmar launched a new recruitment division that will enable us to identify and invest in a team that will help us move the company forward," Dalziel said.
