Rolls-Royce has secured a £10m contract from Simon Møkster Shipping to provide a new bow design and equipment package for an advanced platform supply vessel (PSV) of UT776 WP design.
The offshore vessel design features Rolls-Royce’s wave-piercing bow design that enables the ship to operate at a constant speed under harsh weather conditions, reduce the use of fuel and increase on-board safety.
Rolls-Royce will also provide a range of advanced equipment, like Azipull propellers, thrusters, the latest generation of automation and control systems and a dynamic positioning system that uses GPS systems to make sure the vessel can hold its position even in rough seas.
Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Gondan will build the 5,000dwt PSV that will have a length of 92m, 20m width, 8.2m depth and has a cargo deck area of 1,000m².
The vessel will be equipped with four Rolls-Royce Marine main generator sets and it will be specially designed to undertake oil spill recovery missions in arctic region.
Scheduled to be delivered in 2014, the vessel will be built with NOFO 2009, Ice-1C, De-Ice and Rescue class and is in line with Simon Møkster’s strategy of increasing its activity in the northern regions.
Upon delivery, the vessel will be chartered to Statoil under a fixed three-year contract for service in the Arctic. The contract includes options for three one-year extensions.
