M/V SIGNET VIGILANT

Signet Maritime, a Mississippi-based international marine transportation and logistics company, has started the construction of its seventh Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tug boat, M/V SIGNET VIGILANT, at Signet Shipbuilding & Repair in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The vessel, which is scheduled for delivery in July 2014, will be the first Castleman Maritime design for Signet.

The EPA Tier III ASD vessel has a length of 72ft and beam of 28ft.

The vessel’s deck machinery features a Markey DEPC-32, 20 HP winch on the bow, two Patterson WWP40E 40t facing winches on the stern, and a hawser winch with a capacity for 525ft of 6.5in circumference synthetic line.

The M/V SIGNET VIGILANT vessel is powered by two MTU Model 8V-4000 M54 Tier III engines with 1,200bhp at 1,800rpm, which drive two Rolls Royce US 155 P12-FP azimuth propulsion units.

The engines and propulsion units provide an estimated bollard pull of 30 metric tonnes.

With lower emissions and reduced fuel consumption, the tug meets the EPA Tier III marine emission regulations.

The new tug will operate from Signet’s International Operations Centre in Ingleside, Texas, where it will perform rig escort, ship and barge assist work.

The design and size of the tug will provide Signet operators with improved capabilities and manoeuvrability to assist marine vessels in the shallow depth inland waters.

Signet currently operates 32 vessels that provide marine transportation and logistics services.

The company is further expanding its fleet to meet the growing demand from the number of activities along the Texas Gulf Coast.
