South Korea’s Sundong shipyard has signed a contract with Groot Ship Design for the design and delivery of two types of livestock carriers to be built for Malaysia-based Pembangunan Buka Jijau Holding (PBHH).

Groot Ship Design will provide two types of design and based on these designs Sundong shipyard will build five vessels of each type for the ship owner.
The vessels include a Livestock carrier 11000, capable of carrying 11,000 cattle, as well as a Livestock Carrier 7000, able to carry 7,000 cattle.
Groot Ship Design, which has experience in livestock carriers, has been contracted by the South Korean yard to design the vessels on its bow design called ‘Groot Cross-Bow’. Groot Ship Design will also help the Sundong shipyard with basic engineering.
According to PBHH, the carriers will be used to dispatch livestock from Sudan to Malaysia, while frozen chicken will be transported in return cargo. Each vessel will be loaded with 100 units of 40ft reefer containers.

By GlobalDataGroot Ship Design said that it will work with 20-25 specialists and designers on the vessels for the remainder of 2012. The company said that the contract is the biggest design order so far since it started its design firm at the end of 2005.
