Survitec Group is planning to unveil an advanced marine evacuation system at the 2012 shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology (SMM) international trade fair in Hamburg, Germany, in September 2012.

Survitec will showcase its new remote life raft launch feature for the SurvitecZodiac medium inflatable slide (MIS) escape slide system.

"Survitec will showcase its new remote life raft launch feature for the SurvitecZodiac medium inflatable slide (MIS) escape slide system."

The system’s new feature will allow a second life raft to be launched remotely, after the double track escape slide has been installed and its first 150 person life raft has been automatically inflated.

This enables the second life raft to be installed by pulling a painter line on the vessel, which previously needed a crew member going down into the first raft, from where the second could be inflated.

Remote inflation features allows the crew to deploy the second raft as soon as the first has been activated, eliminating the need of crew members to leave the ship ahead of passengers. It also helps in saving vessel evacuation time for passengers and crew members.

When used with SurvitecZodiac Throw-Over 150 person canopy life rafts and escape slide system, the systems can evacuate 731 passengers in 30 minutes.

The company also said that when used with SurvitecZodiac Open Reversible Inflatable 151 person open life rafts, the system will be capable of evacuating 397 passengers in 17 minutes and 40 seconds.

All rafts used by the new system are of the SurvitecZodiac aspirator type which weighs 490kg compared to regular throw-over, self righting 150 person life raft weight of 840kg.

The company said that GRP containers enable simple storage of the rafts and the inflatable slide is folded and rolled around it on a tilting deployment cradle, to make sure that the particular SurvitecZodiac system is suitable for a range of vessels including high speed craft.
