Wärtsila Hamworthy unit Hamworthy Oil & Gas Systems has won a contract to supply its LNG regasification technology for the third Höegh LNG floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).
Working in co-operation with Sinopacific Offshore and Engineering (SOE), Wärtsilä Hamworthy will design and supply the system concept, while the key equipment and fabrication will be supplied by SOE.
The latest agreement follows the contract signed last November to supply a propane-seawater regasification system for the first two 170,000m3 capacity FRSU vessels.
Höegh LNG president and chief executive Sveinung Støhle said, "Our strategy to expand in the floating regasification market worldwide remains firm and we believe in strong continued growth in this segment."
Hamworthy Oil and Gas Systems LNG business unit director Reidar Strande said that the contract for Höegh LNG follows on from the joint project with SOE in supplying the company’s regasification module for the converted Golar Khannur .
"The module concept was a fast-track project allowing the regasification system to be almost complete before lifting onboard the vessel, with very few interfaces," Strande said.
In February this year, Höegh LNG has exercised an option to build its third FSRU at South Korea’s HHI.
Delivery of the FSRU is scheduled for the second quarter of 2014, and its specifications will be adapted to comply with relevant project requirements.
Höegh LNG also signed a $500m contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries in June 2011 to build a pair of FSRU with an option to build two additional same-class LNG FSRUs.
Each LNG FSRUs measures 294m long and 46m in width and can store 70,000t of chilled natural gas.
In January this year, Wärtsilä had acquired Hamworthy and is now called Wärtsilä Hamworthy.
