Denmark-based ship owner World Maritime Offshore has ordered six wind farm support vessels from Norwegian shipbuilder Fjellstrand for an undisclosed sum.

The vessels will be designed on trimaran SWATH design and scheduled for delivery in 2013.
World Marine Offshore has also secured an option to order a further undisclosed number of similar vessels at the shipyard.
World Maritime Offshore managing director Peter Lykke-Kjeldsen said with the growing offshore wind market the company sees demand for high-quality support vessels that will be able to operate in higher waves at the wind farms, while ensuring higher performance in a safer way.
"The Fjellstrand WindServer is matching our requirements to a state-of-the-art multifunctional vessel," Kjeldsen said.

By GlobalDataFjellstrand will build the vessels on its ‘WindServer’ concept, which the company has developed with support from the UK-based Carbon Trust, for transportation of technicians and components to the wind mills.
The vessels will be equipped to undertake various offshore work, including crew transfer, cargo transfer, search and rescue, survey, diving operations.
Each of the vessels can operate at a service speed of 25 knots while the vessels will have aluminium hulls of 25m or 30m long to carry 12 and 24 service personnel respectively.
The vessels will be equipped with four engines to power two controllable pitch propellers, offering flexibility of operation.
Each of the vessels will be equipped with ballasting systems to interchange between rough weather SWATH mode and light weight transit mode, which will be combined with an integrated stabilising foil to offer a stronger hull requiring less maintenance.
