Wärtsilä Hamworthy has secured a contract from South Korea-based Hyundai Mipo Dockyard to provide cargo handling equipment and engineering for four 38,000m³ capacity LPG carriers.
The vessels are being built for Exmar Shipping under a contract with the South Korean shipbuilder in March 2012 to build eight LNG carriers.

Under the deal, Wärtsilä Hamworthy will provide deck-tank engineering, a reliquefaction plant, a Wärtsilä Moss inert gas generator, cargo pumps, a cargo heater and vaporiser, and a cargo control system.
All equipment and engineering services are scheduled to be delivered in 2013.
The vessels will be built on Hyundai Mipo’s newly developed design, which will increase their capacity by 3,000m³. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered from the first quarter of 2014.
The hulls of the vessels will be optimised to reduce resistance in water and offer savings in CO2 emissions as well as fuel consumption.

The funnel design of the ships will allow the installation of scrubbers to reduce sulphur air emissions, while the engine room and deck will be designed to use LNG or LPG as fuel to reduce CO2, SOx and NOx air emissions.
According to Exmar, the addition of the vessels into its fleet will strengthen company’s existing midsize fleet of vessels.
The deal brings the number of vessels in the Exmar LPG fleet that are equipped with Wärtsilä Hamworthy cargo handling engineering and equipment to 13.
Exmar operates and manages a fleet of 30 vessels, with its midsize vessel segment accounting for more than half of its fleet
