Wärtsilä has secured a contract from SIEM RoRo Carriers to supply integrated turnkey electrical solutions for four new ferries being built at the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) yard in Germany.
The package will consist of Wärtsilä SAM Electronics products and services range, as well as engineering and project management, supply and installation of cables and equipment. In addition, it will feature Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum navigation and automation, external and internal communication systems, energy distribution, the lighting system, and the engine control room consoles.
FSG managing director Alex Gregg-Smith said: "Wärtsilä SAM Electronics are fully familiar with the products and support required for these vessels, having repeated installations on these RoRo’s for many years.
"With the full integration and repeat of the systems, we expect an improvement in efficiency and reduction in risk."
The roro ferries have a length of 209m and deadweight of 11,000dwt. They feature cabins to accommodate 12 drivers and have a carrying capacity of 283 trailers.
Of the four vessels contracted by SIEM, two will be chartered to Denmark’s DFDS and two to EKOL of Turkey.
Wärtsilä SAM Electronics is focused on supplying complete electrical and automation system packages on vessels.
The company in collaboration with shipbuilding yards can be present from the preliminary design stage of projects, combining competent project management with professional cross-system capabilities, and integrating several electric and electronic systems to offer a uniform turnkey solution.
